HOW TO LAYER PRODUCTS FOR AN EFFECTIVE SKINCARE RITUAL

IS THERE A CORRECT ORDER TO LAYERING YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCTS?

If you want your skincare products to absorb fully into your skin and get the best results, then it's important to apply your skincare regimen in the right order. The golden rule is to go from the thinnest texture to the thickest texture, and the order of application in your morning routine may differ from your night time routine., depending on your skin needs.

Day Time Application

CLEANSER → TONER → SERUMS → EYE CREAMS → SPOT TREATMENTS → MOISTURISER → FACE OIL → SPF

Since there isn't a 'one size fits all' approach to skincare, you don't exactly need an eight-step skincare routine. More often, skin tends to do better with fewer products. We believe that keeping it simple is key to maintaining a healthy complexion and we like to stick to 3-4 products at a time to maximise results. Once you've cleansed your face, simply apply a toner (like our Pineapple Brightening Toner or Mango Purifying Toner), followed by a cream/moisturiser (like our Banana Nourishing Cream or Guava Moisturising Cream), and seal your skin barrier with an oil (like our Papaya Clarifying Oil or Guava Revitalising Oil). Don't forget the sunscreen! Day time skincare application should be structured around protection from UV rays and environmental stressors, so SPF should always be the final step in your routine. Adding actives or exfoliating ingredients like retinol can actually make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so use these actives at a minimum or sparingly during the day, and use serums/oils that contain Vitamin C, an essential antioxidant that not only gives you an instant glow, but protects your skin from the damage caused by free radicals. Both our Guava Seed and Papaya Seed face oils are naturally enriched with this vitamin.

Night Time Application

CLEANSER → TONER → SERUMS → EYE CREAMS → SPOT TREATMENTS → MOISTURISER → ACTIVES → FACE OIL

At night, the order of application is similar to your day time routine, except you can now introduce products with concentrated actives like retinol and exfoliating acids like glycolic and lactic acid., which should be applied before face oils. After cleansing, always apply a toner. Although some might skip this step entirely, a toner will help to restore your skin's pH level and prepare it for the absorption of nutrients. A toner will also make the skin slightly damp, allowing the ingredients in your products to penetrate deeper. Unlike acid toners, our Pineapple and Mango toners are balancing and calming enough to be safely used daily on the skin in combination with other products. The next essential step is using a moisturiser/cream at night to help improve your skin barrier and activate your skin's overnight repair process. Most people will use a lighter cream during the day and a thicker one at night. If you don't like the greasy residue of a thick cream, our Banana and Guava creams have a lightweight consistency while providing optimum hydration. They also contain a small concentration of AHA fruit acids to gently exfoliate and stimulate collagen production. Finally, finish off your skincare routine with an oil, like our Guava Seed and Papaya Seed face oils, Face oils are occlusive, meaning they lock in all the ingredients you just applied and leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth. Due to their density, oils must always be applied last because they can easily penetrate serums, creams, and moisturisers, but these products can't penetrate oils.
